The New York Times reported this weekend that the prom will be cancelled at Kellenberg, a Roman Catholic High School on Long Island. The primary reasons given are general debauchery and liability. I think they threw liability in there for good measure. Apparently after Prom's now-a-days, kids run out to the Hamptons in houses rented by their parents and have raucous orgies financed by Mom and Dad.
I thought we got away with a lot back in our day. We didn't compared to these kids. Most of all I wonder why the parents don't mind shelling out the big bucks for kids to have so much fun when they could spend it on themselves. If the kids had to pay for all that out of their own pockets, it just wouldn't happen. The most they'd be able to afford would be a limo and a trip to the diner. The worst that would happen is they'd have sex in the back of their 2nd hand car rather than at someone's posh Hamptons address. (and the parents would have more $$$ to spend on themselves)

Parents should be trained before they have kids and be issued licenses. It's a shame that proms have turned into orgies, and the schools are afraid of the lawyers ready to pounce.
